"Hannah locks up near cattails with a breadth of knee-high grass nearby.  Up pops Robby Rooster and I get the drop..  At the instant he hits the ground, from point of thud, up springs a rooster.  Now I know that the one I hit could not bounce back like that, yet it sure looked like it.  Well, to break my surprise, to my right another popped out and flew low, straight away, for a perfect chance on a double, which I missed.  Then another (out of shells - trying to reload), and another, and another, at least another and maybe a hen.

That came after Molly and I had hunted together for a few hours, seeing three or four roosters and some herds of hens. Molly walked back to the truck.  When I got back, I had to reports having put up 17, plus two or three hens."
